Cape Town, South Africa | Closed its Most Successful Cruise Season Welcoming 83 Ship Calls

Cape Town, vibrant port city of South Africa's southwest coast located on a stunning peninsula facing the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, highlighted by a unique natural setting in the Floristic Region and beautiful landmarks like Cape Point and the Table Mountain closed its most successful cruise season to date welcoming 83 cruise ship calls during the 2024/2025 period,  including 11 inaugural calls.  

March stood out as the peak month, with 22 ship arrivals, and the season officially ended with the departure of the Crown Princess on 29 June. 

The Port of Mossel Bay, a coastal town situated on the Cape Saint Blaize Peninsula on the Garden Route in the Western Cape province also contributed to the Western Cape's growing cruise presence, recording 15 calls over the same period.

According to Wesgro, the official tourism, trade and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape the cruise sector contributed an estimated R1.32 billion to the regional economy and supported 2.000 jobs during the 2023/2024 season.

Passenger and crew throughput at the Cape Town Cruise Terminal rose by 16% year - on - year, signalling growing demand. Notably, the Queen Anne's visit in April continued Cunard's high - profile engagement with the South African city.

The cruise terminal of Cape Town plays a crucial role in shaping the first impression of visitors arriving by sea, and efforts are made to ensure a memorable experience.

The city’s cruise terminal has been recognized with prestigious awards, named Africa’s Best Cruise Terminal for the fourth consecutive year at the World Cruise Awards and the growth of cruise tourism is driving economic benefits for the city, other coastal towns in South Africa, particularly along the Garden Route and the wider region.

With infrastructure in place and a strong forward - booking pipeline, Cape Town is positioning itself as a key African hub in global cruise itineraries.
