The cable car of Puerto Plata commonly known as "Teleferico" built in Italy has been operating since 1975, the ride to the top of the Mount Isabel de Torres, which actually hosts a national park is just 10 minutes and it take visitors up 800.1 metres offering high altitude panoramic vistas of the best of Puerto Plata, represents an icon and a notable resource for the local tourism.

For 14 months, the vendors and owners of shops linked to the service of the Cable Car have been fighting for the reopening of that tourist and transport infrastructure that mobilized more than 16.000 people to the top of the emblematic mountain of this Dominican city.

Mitur, the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic which will invest to expand and modernize the "Teleferico", installing new equipment, and include more technical, administrative, and office personnel through its Minister, David Collado has signed an agreement with the Presidents of Fedanorte, the Federation of Workers and Sellers of Crafts and Related Products of the Northern Region,Mariano Rodríguez and the spokesman of the Association of Owners of Shops and Vendors of Cable Car, Robinson Rodríguez, Plinio Del Rosario and Vladimir Santana, respectively.

At the meeting the Minister of Tourism was accompanied by the Director General of the IDAC, the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Igor Rodríguez, the Provincial Governor of Puerto Plata, Claritza Rochtte Peralta de Senior and the Municipal Mayor, Díomedes Roque García Núñez.

The Minister of Tourism stressed that the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, has given all his support and has been pending this case through FITRAM, the Trust for the Development of the Mass Transportation System of the Dominican Republic and URBE, the Executing Unit for the Readjustment of Neighborhoods & Environments.

For Mitur and the Tourism cabinet, the recovery of the Puerto Plata cable car is a priority, as long as there are no risks for tourists and Dominicans. With the best closing in the history of cruise ships in Puerto Plata, more than two and half million visitors will arrive, the reactivation of the "Teleferico"  will be an added value for the tourism sector and the most important aspect is a call for order, work and unity.
