Birmingham Airport, located 13 km east - southeast of downtown Birmingham, a major city in England’s West Midlands region, with multiple Industrial Revolution - era landmarks that speak to its 18th century history as a manufacturing powerhouse in the UK, slighty north of Bickenhill village, in the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, received a petition to be renamed as Ozzy Osbourne International.
Recently deceased rocker Ozzy Osbourne’s name could live on at his hometown airport. The 76 - years - old died on 22nd July 2025, and the loss of the star after his final show at Villa Park Stadium sparked an outpouring of grief among Birmingham’s communities and all the world.
A movement is gaining steam with a petition to rename Birmingham Airport to honour the Black Sabbath icon, launched by fan Dan Hudson after the heavy metal star’ death.
In less than two days this petition has reached nearly 12.000 signatures calls for the airport to be renamed “Ozzy Osbourne International”.
Ozzy Osbourne was the most important musician ever to hail from Birmingham. Songwriter and media personality he co - founded the band Black Sabbath in 1968, who invented the genre of heavy metal, and rose to prominence in the 1970s as its lead vocalist.
Other airports in the UK are named after their famous children such as George Best International Airport in Belfast, which honoured George Best, a football star who played as a winger, spending most of his club career at Manchester United, and Liverpool John Lennon Airport, named in honor of John Lennon, singer - songwriter who gained global fame as the founder, co - lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of The Beatles, iconic rock band formed in the English city in 1960.
Ozzy Osbourne influence on music and culture for a lot of people is undeniable and for several fans of the rock star naming Birmingham International airport after him would be a fitting tribute to his extraordinary career.
