Vietnam | Tourism Industry Witnessed an Unprecedented Milestone in the First Five Months of 2025

Vietnam, a very emergent tourist destination in Southeast Asia witnessed an unprecedented milestone in its tourism industry in the first five months of 2025, welcoming over 9.2 million international tourists, marking a 21.3% year - on - year growth.

Tourism sector is experiencing a very robust recovery and strong performances in 2025, exceeding pre - pandemic levels and setting ambitious targetws for the year. The Asiatic country has seen a significant increase in both international and domestic tourism, with a notable contribution to the national GDP.

This surge was largely fueled by rising arrivals from China, India, and Southeast Asian coutries, air connectivity expansion, relaxed visa rules, and global campaigns have transformed Vietnam into one of Asia’s most attractive destinations.

In May alone, the country recorded 1.53 million international visitors, a 10.5% increase from the the same month of the previous year.

Air travel dominated the tourism scene with 85.2% of tourists arriving by air between January and May 2025 while land and sea entries accounted for 12.9% and 1.9%.

China led arrivals with 2.36 million visitors, followed by South Korea, 1.9 million, while India with 272.000 tourists showed a 38.3% increase and strong momentum was also seen from Taiwan, the United States, Japan and Cambodia, while Russia reemerged as the leading European market, with a 121.1% year - on - year surge.

Several Southeast Asian markets shown a robust growth, notably the Philippines with 104.3%, the above mentioned Cambdia, 64.8% and Laos, 39.8%, signaling the strength of regional travel.

In Europe, countries under Vietnam’s visa waiver program such as France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Spain continued to contribute significantly with special attention to other markets like Poland with an increase of 44.5% and Switzerland, 10.7%, which benefited from short - term visa exemptions.

VNAT, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism is actively building global visibility with the launch of campaigns in France, Italy, Switzerland and will continue in other key markets such as Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.

 With favorable policies, strong demand and increasing flight access, Vietnam is expected to maintain its upward trend through 2025.

With ambitious goals for international arrivals and revenue the Asiatic country aims to attract 22 - 23 million of visitors coming from abroad this year, a target that is well within reach based on current growth rates.
