The Dominican Republic’s tourism is experiencing a very strong performance with record - breaking numbers visitor numbers and significant contribution to the national economy and as confirmation of all that the Caribbean country received more than 6 million visitors in the first six months of 2025.
Tourism Minister, David Collado informed that the country reached the highest number of its history in the first six months of this year, receiving 6.145.008 visitors, solidifying its position as a leading Caribbean destination.
The Dominican Republic’s tourism sector is thriving, this success is attributed to strategic investments in infrastructure, a strong public - private partnership in promoting the country, efficient strategies, diversification of the offerings, outstanding quality of hotels and resorts and fueled by the country’s diverse attractions including its beaches, mountains and cultural sites.
The Minister of Tourism specified that the January - June only by air the country received 4.154.093 tourists, which he described as something extraordinary and pointing out that this growth is also felt, with the arrival of 1.630.915 cruise passengers.
Data provided reflects a 48% increase over 2019, 15% over 2023 and 3% over 2024. The majority of visitors came from the United States, 45%, Canada, 18%, Argentina, 6%, and Colombia, 4%, while Chile, France, Germany, Great Britain and Puerto Rico each contributed 2% and the hotel occupancy exceeded 77% in the first half of the year.
Presenting the figures together with the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, the Minister of Tourism indicated that 185.166 more people travelled to the Dominican Republic compared to the same period in 2024.
Finally the Minister affirmed that Dominican tourism is at its best and assured that by end of 2025 the figure of 12 million visitors will be reached.
In the presence of the main players in the sector and the media gathered in a hotel of the capital of the country, Santo Domingo, the President Abinader highlighted the extraordinary growth of the tourism industry and its impact on the national economy.
