W Hotels, an American hotel chain founded by Starwood Hotels and Resorts but now owned by Marriott International and part of Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, operating upscale hotels and long - stay apartment facilities worldwide opened a new location in the beating heart of Florence, the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany, known for being the cradle of the Renaissance, and one of Europe’s most art – filled cities, boasting a unique cultural and historical heritage visible in its outstanding architecture, monuments and prominent museums.
This debut in Tuscany marks the brand’s second property in Italy, following the opening of W Rome and is part of W Hotels’ ongoing expansion in Europe, following recent openings in Budapest and Prague.
W Florence is situated in the former Grand Hotel Majestic on Piazza dell’ Unità Italiana, a stylish square known for its commemorative obelisk to celebrate the national unity of Italy, near the Basilica di Santa Maria Novella and Santa Maria Novella Station, a short distance from the Duomo, formally the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, a masterpiece designed by the famous architect Filippo Brunelleschi representing in all its essence a testament to the creativity of the Renaissance.
The hotel is hosted in a building originally designed by architect Lando Bartoli in 1968 which has been renowned by GLA, Genius Loci Architettura, a prominent Italian architecture firm providing architectural, interior design and planning services for national and international clientele to meet LEED Gold and WELL Silver sustainability standards.
The establishment features 119 comfortable rooms, including 16 suite and one Penthouse, both indoor and outdoor spaces, highlighted by a stylish central courtyard and a rooftop garden that offers stunning views of Florence.
The hotel offers various dining options, Tratto is a contemporary Italian restaurant, will operate on the ground floor and throughout the establishment, including room service while Zefiro Rooftop, set to open in late summer 2025 will offer a mix of craft cocktails and small bites accompanied by unforgettable city views.
In addition for the lovers of the Asian flavours, Akira Back will offer contemporary Japanese and Korean cuisine and is also scheduled to open its doors in summer 2025.
Amenities also include the brand’s signature gym, FIT, equipped with cardio and strength - training equipment 24/7, flexible meeting spaces suitable for a range of events, from intimate gatherings top large corporate functions.
