Honduras is actively working to enhance its tourism sector, investing in improved air facilities, creating a line of credit for hotels and tourism businesses to expand services, moving beyond cruise - based tourism to develop more diverse offerings and implementing sustainable practices to involve local communities with the aim to ensure that responsible tourism benefits everyone.
Recently the Central American country through the Honduran Institute of Tourism (IHT) has signed a strategic agreement with the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) to strengthen the highest international standards of the chimneyless industry.
The signing of the agreement took place in Tela, a Honduran town located on the northern Caribbean coast in the department of Atlantida and was attended by the Ministry of Tourism, Yadira Gómez, the Regional Director for the Americas, Gustavo Santos, and the Director of Tourism of the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), Óscar Rueda.
As reported by the Institute of Tourism, the agreement seeks to promote he participatory development of a National Strategy for Sustainable Tourism and Adaption to Climate Change, aimed at promoting the participation of local communities throughout the sector’s value chain.
In this sense, it is intended that tourism improves the living conditions of the population, in addition to projecting the country as a competitive and reference destination worldwide committed to sustainability and innovation.
This agreement represents not only an opportunity to strengthen the tourism industry in Honduras, but also a firm commitment to social development, innovation, environmental protection and the projection of Honduras with more visibility in the international tourism landscape, marking a decisive step towards placing the country at the highest standards in the sector, promoting a modern vision of sustainable and inclusive growth.
