Torres del Paine, a commune located in the Chile's Patagonia region in  a transition area between the Magellanic subpolar forests and the Patagonian Steppes at the foothills of the “Cordillera Paine”mountain group, famous for its emblematic National Park, well known for its blue icebergs that cleave from glaciers, soaring mountains and golden “pampas”, typical grasslands of South America, highlighted by iconic sites like the 3 granite towers from which the park takes its name and the hornes - shaped peaks called “Cuernos del Paine” is consolidating itself as leading hub for sports tourism.

This Chilean destination is a renowned location for outdoor activities, particularly hiking and multi - sport adventures, offering world - class hiking trails like the “W” trek with options for both guided and independent exploration. Beyond hiking, activities like kayaking, horseback riding, and biking are also popular, making it a haven for those seeking active travel experiences.

Apart all that Torres del Paine is consolidating its fame as epicentre for sports tourism hosting two events that combine extreme nature and international competition.

The first event is the Patagonian International Marathon which will take place on 6th September 2025, featuring 3 classic race distances of 42km (marathon), 21km (half – marathon) and 10km in the extreme south of the American continent at 51° south latitude.

The second is the Ultra Paine on 27th September 2025, an epic race through forests and rugged trails includes very challenging climb and dizzying descents, a pioneer in trail running in Suthern Patagonia, offering distances between 5 and 50 kilometres and has brought together atheletes from more than 40 countries.

Both races bring together runners from all over the world in one of the most challenging and spectacular environment on the planet like the Chilean Patagonia.

The Patagonian climate is another protagonist within these two races. Sun, wind, rain and snow can alternate in the same day, demanding great adaptability, strong mental fortitude and resilience to overcome challenges like fatigue, musculoskeletal injuries, and changes of temperatures that can affect muscles, causing stiffness, pain and even contractures, especially in the case of sudden cold weather.

Organizer of both competitions, Stjepan Pavicic, highlights that running in Torres del Paine is a transformative experience. The physical effort is intertwinded with the wild beauty of the landscape, generating a unique connection.

General Manager of the Hotel del Paine, Victoria Solo de Zaldívar said that these competitions are not just a race, it is a unique experience in pure territory, without urban intervention, very special races which demands planning, training and resilience.

The local infrastructure has been adapted to receive the runners. The Hotel del Paine, the arrival point of both competitions, offer spaces specially conditioned for the preparation and recovery of athletes, considering the demands of the natural environment.

The impact of these events in all their essence transcends sports. The Hotel del Paine Director stated that the images shared by the runners position the region on the international map as a destination capable of organizing events successfully.

After these two challenging and unique events, the season in the Chilean Patagonia will continue in October with the “Del Estrecho Trail” south of Punta Arenas on the Strait of Magellan, iconic point which connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, organized by Magallanes Trail Runners, which will take place in the Parque del Estrecho de Magallanes, reinforcing the region’s position as a benchmark for extreme running in the international landscape.
