Cozumel continues to consolidate its position as one of Mexico’s most attractive destinations and during July 2025, the island’s hotels recorded an average occupancy rate of 60%, representing a 4.3% increase over June and an increase of more 9% compared to the same month last year.
Mayor José Luis Chacón Méndez celebrated these brilliant results saying that this growth is no coincidence, stating that this success is the result of a coordinated work between authorities, the hotel industry, airlines and tourism developers, adding that Cozumel is more vibrant than ever and is continuing to advance to offer quality experiences that will maintain its position as a leading destination in the Mexican Caribbean.
The Cozumel Island Hotel Association (AHIC) said that these results confirm that hotel tourism remains strong, even during the low season.
Deputy Director of Tourism, José Elias Farah Ceh, reported that 71% of visitors arriving by air are international travellers primarily from the United States, 39.3% followed by Canada, 14.8% , according to data from the Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat (SEDETUR).
Adding to this growth is the expansion of air connectivity. Volaris, Mexican low - cost airline will increase its flight frequencies from the capital of the country, Mexico City, meanwhile Viva Aerobús, another major Mexican low - cost company headquartered in Monterrey will add flights on September 18 and 19 from Mexico City - AIFA to accommodate the arrival of Ironman 70.3 Cozumel triathletes.
