Russia | Demand Among Russian Tourists for Tours to China Rises by 50 - 100% after Visa Abolition

Following China’s introduction of a trial visa – free regime for Russian citizens, demand from Russian tourists for tours to the Asian country has increased by 50 – 100% as reported by the press service of the Russian Union of Travel Industry, citing data from analysts.

The statement said that since early September, when the news about China introducing a visa regime appeared, demand for tours began to to growth rapidly, stressing that in the first ten days of September it increased by more – than 60% year - on - year.

From 15th September 2025 to 14th September 2026 the People’s Republic of China launched a trial visa - free regime for Russians holding ordinary passport as part of ongoing efforts to grow bilateral relations, promote cross - border movement and boost tourism.

Russian tour operators report that the demand for package tours and hotel booking in China has notably increased and the PR Director of one of the travel companies of the Russian Federation, Olga Lanskaya, stated that at present around 80% of the tourist flow in concentrated on Hainan Island, an island and province of China and the nation’s southernmost point,  known for its tropical climate, pristine beaches, resorts, and forested, mountainous interior.

Vice President of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) , Aleksander Musikhin, in an exclusive commentary to TV BRICS, noted that popular destinations for Russsians include Beijing, Guanzhou, and Shanghai, as well as Henan Province, home to the Shaolin Monastery.

Head of the outbound tourism department of a Beijing tourist business company, Li Peng, in a conversation with the International Media Network, stated that the visa - regime for Russian citizens demonstrates the high level of relation between Russia and China that strengthens trade and cultural ties, and it will also give a new and powerful impetus to the development of the Chinese Chinese economy.

The tourism manager also added that China’s tourism infrastructure is already at a high level, given the active use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies, which make travel comfortable, and adding as an advise that those visiting the country for the first time should start their trip from Beijing and Shanghai.
