Croatia | Croatian Tourist Board Experiences a Constructive Partnership with Expedia Group for its “Destination Giveback” Initiative

Croatia, through its National Tourist board experiences a constructive partnership with Expedia Group, a renowned American travel technology company that owns and operates fare aggregators and travel metasearch engines, based in Seattle, Washington for its “Destination Giveback” initiative launched last year to support local communities and entities in the destinations the travel platform collaborates with. 

This joint promotional campaign also includes donations to local projects, fostering the growth of sustainable tourism highlighting Croatia’s lesser - known destinations and the rich cultural heritage of the country from Dubrovnik, Split and Zadar to Pula, Rovinj, Opatija and Rijeka with the surrounding islands of Istria, featuring hidden coves, stunning bays and beautiful beaches to historic cities and towns like Zagreb,  Osijek, Varadžin and Karlovac, highlighted by several medieval and baroque treasures.

Beyond inspiring travel, the campaign also aims to raise awareness about the preservation of marine ecosystems, particularly the fragile underwater habitats of the Adriatic Sea.

One of the notable examples of this constructive partnership is the donation of €10.000 from Expedia Group to Sunce, the Association fro Nature, Environment, and Sustainable Development founded in 1998 and located in Split, an organization dedicated to protecting nature, promoting environmental awareness, and advocating for sustainable practices through science - based solutions, public participation and education. 

The work of the association focuses on areas like protecting marine ecosystems, sustainable tourism, waste management, ensuring Croatia’s natural beauty is preserved for future generations and the public’s right to a healthy environment by engaging with citizens and institutions at local and international levels.

Director Marketing and Communications of the Croatian National Tourist Board, Martina Srnec, said that the organization is very pleased for the collaboration with Expedia Group, launching in the campaign lesser - known destinations to further promote Croatia’s natural attractions and cultural heritage.


The Croatian National Tourist Board is dedicated to the sustainable development of tourism and raising awareness about the importance of preserving natural resources. With the Destination Giveback initiative the objective is to protecting marine ecosystems while offering guests unique and authentic experiences.

The Tourist Board believes that such partnerships enhances Croatia’s international recognition as a destination of high value and sustainable tourism.

President of Business Development at Expedia Group Jennifer Andre stated that the partnership with the Croatian National Tourist Board reflects the company shared commitment to showcase the world’s hidden gems and protecting the natural assets that make them unique.

By highlighting Croatia’s rich cultural heritage and supporting marine conservation through Destination Giveback initiative, the goal is to ensure that future generations can experience the magic of the Adriatic as we do today.

Head of Communications and Advocacy at the Sunce Association, Maja Jurić, emphasized that the funds will also support education and raise public awareness about the importance of preserving Posidonia (a species of sea grass) meadows, commonly known as Neptune grass or Mediterranean tapeweed that is endemic to the Mediterranean Sea.

The donation also helps co - finance public events as part of of the BIOPRESSADRIA project, particularly in the island of Korčula along the Dalmatian Coast.
