The new pier designed for small boats and catamarans will serve as a key docking point for tours to Catalina Island, a tropical island in the Caribben Sea located 2.4 kilometres from the mainland on the south - east corner of the Dominican Republic, near the province of La Altagracia and La Romana, an occasional destination for cruise ships on Caribbean routes and excursions to other coastal attractions.

The pier spans 30.92 metres in length and 3 metres in width, featuring a walkway with railings, lighting, docking capacity for eight catamarans or eleven smaller boats and with five 5.4 - metre berths at the southern end. The Minister of Tourism emphasized that the project responds to a long - standing community demand and will generate economic opportunities by revitalizing Caleta’s coastal zone, stating that this type of project directly impacts local economics and helps communities thrive through tourism.
