Scandic Hotels | Unveiled Plans to Open a New 328 - Room Hotel in Hamburg, Germany

Scandic Hotels, a Swedish hotel chain based in Stockholm, a pioneer within sustainability with the majority of its hotels certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel requirement has unveiled plans to open a new 328 - room hotel in Hamburg, a major port city in northern Germany connected to the North Sea by the Elbe River, a vibrant centre well known for its busy harbour,  historic warehouse district, cutting - edge architecture and energetic nightlife, combining maritime heritage with modern innovation and boasting several historical and cultural attractions.

The project is part of a long - term lease agreement, a collaboration with B&L Group, a real estate company headquartered in Hamburg, which will construct the hotel, and is a strategic move by Scandic to expand its portfolio in a key destination like Hamburg, Germany’s second - largest city and a significant hub for international trade,  logistics, culture, congresses and events, a centre which records over 16 million hotel nights annually, driven by both business and leisure travel.

Scandic Hotels will operate the establishment, a new location which will complement the Swedish hotel chain’s existing presence in the German city, which includes the Scandic Emporio and a planned 430 - room hotel near the Berliner Tor station, expected to open in 2030.

Catering to both business and leisure travellers and scheduled to open in 2028, the future hotel will be located in the St. Georg district, a lively and colourful neighbourhood filled with galleries, design shops, restaurants, hip cafes and bars east of Hamburg Hauptbanhof, the city’s central station, centrally located in Hachamnnplatz in the Hamburg - Mitte borough near the Wandelhalle shopping centre.

The property will be integrated into a redevelopment project that includes offices, restaurants, event spaces, and additional hotels, in a convenient location will provide direct access to Hamburg’s bus terminal and several and commuter train lines, enhancing guests experience.

The property will feature 328 rooms and is part of a Scandic’s broader growth initiative with plans announced earlier in 2025 to open eight new hotels in the Nordic countries and Germany, adding more than 1.600 rooms to its portfolio.

This development aligns with Scandic Hotels’ broader strategy to increase its room capacity by approximately 15.000 by the end of 2030, focusing on key destinations in Germany.

In addition the development in Hamburg’s St. Georg district is part of the StadtKontor scheme, which aims to revitalize the area by converting existing office spaces into modern environments, an initiative which is expected to contribute to the district’s growth and appeal as a dynamic urban centre.
