Sierra Leone is actively developing its tourism industry with a 10 - year sustainable growth strategy and a new “Explore Freedom” brand, and as a continuation to modernise its sector the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs has launched a the Creative Economy Diagnostic Report, signalling a strategic move to bolster cultural tourism as a key driver of economic growth, developing a new tourism website, and implementing digital marketing campaigns.
The new report forms part of a broader policy shift to rebrand Sierra Leone’s creative industries, promote cultural entrepreneurship, and attract investment for sustainable economic diversification.
The report, developed by Creative Hub Africa, providing a physical and digital platform for the development of creative entrepreneurs, through leaders and community builders with support from the World Bank, European Union, and other development partners.
The launch of this initiative was unveiled in the capital of the country Freetown and outlines growth opportunities and performance metrics for the sector, which currently contributes 4.5% to GDP and over 10% of national employment.
Tourism Minister Nabeela Farida Tunis, who officiated the launch, highlighted the government’s renewed commitment to creative and tourism sectors under the 2024 - 2030 National Development Plan, focusing on five national goals aimed at accelerating prfogress towards the country’s vision of becoming an inclusive and green - middle income country.
The five goals include food security and agriculture, human capital development, youth employment creating 500.00 jobs, public service transformation for better service delivery and enhancing technology and infrastructure for economic growth.
The event also celebrated the graduation of 24 participants from the Creatif Pilot Program designed to support emerging creative talent.
