Cameroon’s Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife launched the the Legal Hub, a digital platform developed to strengthen governance, centralise wildlife laws, management protocols and boost sustainable tourism.
Developed in collaboration with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) under the EU - backed Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) programme, the tool aims to improve transparency, combat poaching, and secure rural livelihoods.
The initiative forms part of the Sustainable Wildlife Management Programme, which operates in 16 countries and is funded by the EU with the support of the French Global Environment Facility and the French Development Agency with the objective to conserve wildlife and ecosystems.
By integrating with the 2024 Forestry Law, the Legal Hub aims to compile legal analyses and policy guidance to expand community rights, strengthen anti - poaching measures and align the country with international biodiversity standards.
The Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF) working with the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR – ICRAF) and national stakeholders, by creating a more transparent framework, with the introduction of the Legal Hub platform expects to improve legal literacy, guide reforms, attract investment in conservation - linked activities, including ecotourism, biodiversity research and forest - based livelihoods.
