Brazil has created a new national research centre for low - carbon hydrogen to boost green transition, an initiative announced by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI).
This centre funded by the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT) is a project will receive an investment of about US$10 million to develop sustainable technologies and strengthen ties between scientific research and industry.
The project is part of Brazil’s broader strategy to advance its green economy, supported by initiatives such as the National Hydrogen Program (PNH2) which aims to make Brazil a competitive low - carbon hydrogen producer.
The centre will support public and private research institutions with proven experience applied industrial research focusing on the development of technologies for the production, storage and safe use of low - emission hydrogen across diverse sectors such as steelmaking, transportation, fertilizers, and power generation.
MCTI Minister Luciana Santos highlighted the centre’s importance launch coinciding with the period of the 2025 Climate Conference (COP30) hosted in Belem, capital of the state of Pará, stressing that there is no way to tackle the climate crisis without science and public investment.
With this initiative the South American country has taken a relevant step in its energy transition and according to officials, hydrogen is a key pillar of the global transition and could transform Brazil’s industrial base.
