Morocco is on course to approach 20 million tourist arrivals by the end of this year and to exceed 120 billion dirhams in tourism receipt beating 2026 goal, a target originally set for next year, according to Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy Fatim – Zahra Ammor.
This accelerated growth is driven by factors including the post - pandemic recovery, and an enhanced international profile following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar that has contributed to elevate the country’s global image with increased visitor numbers.
Other factors linked to these brilliant performances are Morocco ongoing efforts to improve its tourism infrastructure through expanded air links, with 120 routes opened in 2024 and 80 in 2025, including the Atlanta - Marrakech linking the Moroccan city with one of the world’s largest hub connecting 125 US cities, running promotional campaigns, diversification of its offerings and expanding partnerships with tour operators and online travel agencies.
Through September, arrivals reached 15 million and foreign currency topped 87 billion dirhams by August, with both metrics up 14%.
Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy said arrivals and revenues are rising at similar rates, amplifying economic impact and jobs.
To enhance this success Moroccan authorities are planning to add 1 to 1.5 million airline seats annually to reach 26 million visitors by 2030.
Other actions include investment and capacity measures as the Cap Hospitality programme, a government initiative to support the modernization of tourist accommodations. The program provides interest - free - state funded loans for eligible projects, with the government covering the interest costs.
The program supports hotel renovations of 91 properties for a total of 14.000 rooms and plans to create 150.000 to 200.000 direct tourism jobs and train 150.000 young people by 2030.
With all that and more, officials view the FIFA 2030 World Cup which will be hosted by the North African country, Spain and Portugal, as a further catalyst for long – term, value creating growth beyond the event.
