IHG Hotels & Resorts | Unveiled the Future Opening of a New 52 Villa Resort Part of Vignette Collection on Vaagali Island in the South Malé Atoll, The Maldives

IHG Hotels & Resorts, British multinational hospitality company based in Windsor, Berkshire, England, UK, has unveiled the future opening of a new 52 villa resort part of Vignette Collection on Vaagali Island in the South Malé Atoll, an exotic Maldivian paradise separated from North Malé Atoll by a very deep channel, Vaadu Kandu, an idyllic site well known for its stunning, untouched natural beauty,  home to rare underwater caves, offering a unique marine exploration experience, an amazing diving/snorkeling and great surf destination, offering a fantastic blend of relaxation and adventure with picturesque beaches and abundant marine life.

For the future opening of Vaagali Maldive, Vignette Collection scheduled to debut in late 2026, IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with Vaagali Investment Pvt, a subsidiary of Gateway Maldives Pvt Ltd, a development that marks an expansion of IHG’s presence in the Maldives.

The British hospitality company already operates several properties in the Asian archipelago, including Noku Maldives, Vignette Collection and others under the Six Senses and InterContinental brands, and this new addition will be IHG Hotels & Resorts’ sixth property in the country.

The Maldives, a very demanded destination continue to see substantial tourism numbers, with 1.7 million international arrivals recorded from January to October 2025, a 10% increase over the previous year, and the country is on track to meet its target of 2.3 million arrivals for the year.

The resort located on Vagaali Island is accessible via a 30 - minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport and will feature 52 villas, both on land and overwater, offering a range of accommodations, including one - , two - , and three bedrooms, pool villas, each equipped with a yoga pavilion. 

Additional amenities will include five dining venues, a 3.000 - square - metre spa with aqua wellness facilities, a natural freshwater swimming pool, a sport complex with paddle courts, and a kids club.

The property aims to integrate sustainable practices into its operations. Planned initiatives include coral restoration, reef health monitoring, responsible energy and waste management, and reducing single - use plastics. In addition the resort will use locally sourced materials and craft - led design elements.

The resort will join the Vignette Collection brand, introduced in 2021, an upscale family of hotels and resorts where guests can indulge a growing passion for stays that are authentic, experiential and special, proudly independent establishments which emboly comfort, excellence in service and luxury.

Since its launch, this IHG’s brand has grown to include 68 open and pipeline properties globally, with recent openings in relevant destinations, such as Dubai, UAE, Lima, Peru, Osaka, Japan, and Shanghai, China.
