Santiago de los Caballeros, the second most populated city in the Dominican Republic and the third in the Caribbean region, located in the north – central area of the country, known as Cibao Valley, crossed by the Yaque del Norte River, a centre with a strong agricultural sector and major exporter of cigars, rum and textile, famous as “La Ciudad Corazón”, the Heart City is celebrating the success of its Tourist Train which has recorded strong public acceptance during special Christmas time departures.
This Tourist and Cultural Train that travels through the historic centre of Santiago de los Caballeros, ideal for discovering the history of the “La Ciudad Corazón” is operated by Roco Solutions SRL. and marketed by Gómez Tours, which manages the Santiago City Tour, it offers fun and educational city tours for locals and visitors.
Supported by the Santiago Tourist Destination Cluster and the Santiago City Council, the " tren turistico de Samtiago” is very popular during special dates such as Christmas time, drawing enthusiasm from both residents and visitors highlighting the experience as an innovative and enjoyable way to rediscover the city.
The route begins at the “Ayuntamiento del Municipio de Santiago”, the Santiago City Hall, located on Avenida Juan Pablo Duarte and runs around the “Monumento a los Héroes de la Restauración” (the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration), the highest building in the city, located at Daniel Espinal on a hill in the middle of Santiago de los Caballeros surrounded by a park offering stunning views of the city and surrounding mountains, The route connects passengers with emblematic landmarks, cultural expressions, and key elements of local history in a festive, family - friendly setting.
The initiative had previously been presented to international tour operators, generating positive expectations and positioning itself as a high potential product for both domestic and inbound tourism.
President of Roco Solutions SRL., Carlos Rodoli, highlighted the support of Mayor Ulises Rodríguez, Provincial Governor Rosa Santos, and local transportation authorities as key factors in the project’s success.
President of Gómez Tours, Yomaris Gómez, announced that starting in January 2026, the Tourist Train will offer regular departures from the “Gran Teatro del Cibao”, a significant cultural venue in the city, the second most important theatre in the entire national territory of the Dominican Republic praised for its diverse events located on Avenida Coronel Juan María Lora, targeting with this new departure point international visitors and Dominican tourists alike.
With this initiative, Santiago de los Caballeros strengthens its tourism offerings, promotes urban heritage, and advances an innovative, sustainable approach to city tourism.
