Seychelles updated its Tourism Environmental Levy, effective January, 1, 2026, exempting small accommodations (24 rooms or fewer) from the fee to support the contribution local businesses, while establishing rates of SCR 75 for medium (25 - 50 rooms) and SCR 100 for large properties (more than 50 rooms), yachts, and island resorts, charged per person, per night, to support environmental initiatives.
Existing exemptions remain for citizens and residents, airline, and yacht crew, and children aged 12 and under, aligning the mesure with sustainable development and long - term industry resilience.
Key Changes for 2026:
• Exemption for Small Establishments: Small guesthouses, lodges, and self - catering units with up to 24 rooms are now exempt.
Revised Rates for Others:
• Medium Establishment (25 - 50 rooms): SCR 75 per person per night.
• Large Establishments (50+ rooms), yachts & Island Resorts: SCR 100 per person per night.
• Continued Exemptions: Children 12 and under, Seychellois citizens, and crew members remain exempt.
How it Works:
• Collection: Accommodation providers collect the levy directly from visitors upon check - out.
• Purpose: Funds are invested in environmental conservation and sustainable development.
• Transparency: The levy is added to invoices separately, not included in displayed prices.
These adjustments aim to balance tourism growth with ecological preservation, making smaller, locally - run options more affordable for travellers and fostering a more inclusive tourism sector.
