The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), hospitality firm part of Tata Group and based in Mumbai, has revealed plans to open a new 100 - room Ginger hotel in Tuticorin, also known as Thoothukudi, a port industrial city in Thoothukudi district, located on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, traditionally known for pearl fishing and shipping activities, production of salt and other related businesses, as well as with growing industrial and manufacturing sectors.
The city, one of the oldest centres in India with the history dating back to the 6th century BCE, facing the Gulf of Mannar of the Indian Ocean, nicknamed the “Pearl City” and the sea gateway to Tamil Nadu, has seen increased investment in the automotive and energy industries, which has contributed to demand for long - stay accommodation.
The project is a greenfield development in partnership with Thangham Real Estate & Thangham Plot & Farms Pvt. Ltd, will add 100 rooms to IHCL’s regional portfolio and is part of The Indian Hotels Company Limited’strategy to expand its presence in high - demand locations across India.
The planned Ginger Tuticorin hotel will be located along the Tiruneveli - Tuticorin highway, primarily known as National Highway 138 (NH 138), a vital corridor connecting southern Tamil Nadu cities, providing access to Tuticorin’s industrial and commercial hubs, a crucial routes that facilitates significant truck and passenger traffic, with new developments like hotels also leveraging its strategic location.
The property catering both to business and leisure travellers will feature 100 comfortable rooms, a restaurant, a bar, meeting spaces, and a fitness centre.
The hotel will join the mid - scale Ginger brand, reimagined to offer a “smart, vibrant and energetic experience” focusing on a blend of comfort, convenience, and a lifestyle approach for modern travellers. This includes new design with bright colours and art, a focus on food, and smart spaces that balance work and leisure.
With this announcement, The Indian Hotels Company Limited will have 28 hotels in Tamil Nadu, including 10 properties under development.
The timeline for the opening of the Ginger Tuticorin hotel has not been disclosed.
