Italy | Wedding Tourism Shows a Remarkable Accelerated Growth in the Country

Wedding tourism shows a remarkable accelerated growth in Italy, with 16.700 events of this type in the last twelve months, for an increase of 9.8% compared to the same previous period, driven by high demand from Europe, the U.S., and emerging markets like India and the United Arab Emirates.

2026 trends focus on immersive, multi - day experiences, intimate and authentic celebrations, sustainable practices, and expanding to various regions of the country.

An analysis prepared by the Center of Tourism of Florence indicated that, as a result of this high number of marriages of couples coming from abroad, revenues of more than €1.1 billion were generated, which represents an increase of 19.6% in relation to those obtained the previous year.

Tuscany stands out as the most sought - after region, followed by Lombardy, Campanis, Piedmont and Sicily, while among the specific areas, the preferred one are Lake Como (Lombardy) , the Amalfi Coast (Campania) and Chianti area (Tuscany).

Overnight stays in hotel facilities exceeded three million in the stage analyzed, and experts highlight the fact that, unlike mass tourism, destination weddings enhance secondary destinations and the generalized high - end system.

The bride and groom who choose Italy to celebrate their nuptials prefer medieval and rural villages,  and vineyards, rather than crowded urban centres, which brings wealth to these localities.

The sector has far exceeded the post pandemic recovery phase, and is already showing unprecedented high structural growth, according to specialists.

International demand related to this type specialized tourism remains extremely strong in Italy, with the United States as the main source country, accounting for 31.7% of the total, followed by the United Kingdom and Germany.

Extensive promoitional work is also being carried out in nations such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, and the UAE, so positive results are expected in the coming months, much greater than those achieved so far.

2026 Wedding Tourism Features in Italy

•    Immersive and Multi - Day Experiences: Weddings are evolving into multi – day events including welcome dinners, local excursions, cooking classes, and post – wedding gatherings.
•    Emerging Locations: Beyond traditional spots like Amalfi Coast, Tuscany and Lake Como, regions such as Liguria, Puglia and the Dolomites are gaining popularity.
•    Personalization and Authenticity: Couples are choosing experiences rooted in local culture, featuring local, sustainable products, and, for example, personalized leather goods from Tuscany artisans.
•    Sustainability and Show Luxury: Eco - conscious, locally sourced, and intimate ceremonies are setting the standard, often incorporating “unplugged” moments followed by professional content creation.
•    Visual Trends: Floral trends feature the robust and sculptural Protea, with photography adopting a soft, cinematic 35mm film style.
•    Larger Guest Counts: While intimacy is key, guest lists are growing to 80 – 150, reflecting easier, eager travel.

With a projected 5.5% - 6.5% growth from several international markets, 2026 solidifies Italy as a world leader in wedding tourism.

In relation to these brilliant performances the Italian Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanché, stated that the turnover of the wedding sector, which exceeds more than €1 billion, highlights the crucial role that it, in constant growth, plays in the national tourism economy.

The Minister added that the increasingly widespread tendency to choose lesser - known cities, often linked to the roots of couples, less traditional, favours the deseasonalization of travel, as well as the appreciation of Italy’s regional and professional excellence.
