Voronezh, Russia | A Group of Scientist Developed a New Method of Air Purification

A group of scientists from the Voronezh State University of Engineering Technology (VGUIT) located in Voronezh, a city founded by Tsar Feodor I in 1586 and known as the “Cradle of the Russian Navy”, a major southwestern Russian centre on the Voronezh River, administrative capital of the Black Earth Region, a key industrial, educational and cultural hub featuring 18th - century architecture, vibrant theatre scene, and unique, whimsical monuments, developed a new method of air purification.

The researchers have developed and patented a new model of wet dust collector capable of efficiently cleaning the air from industrial emissions, a compact and efficient device that improve air quality which can be applied in sectors such as power generation, mechanical engineering, construction, and other industries.

The scientists’ main goal was to simplify the filtration process, reducing the size and complexity of the equipment, while increasing the effectiveness of air cleaning by using incoming waves and water mist methods as reported by the website of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The equipment includes a water cleaning module that has an inlet for polluted air, a water tank that acts as a barrier, ducts with aerodynamic barriers, curved guides and droplet collectors arranged in the form of a labyrinth. In addition, it incorporates high - efficiency filters and an outlet for purified air.

According to the developers, this model is more compact, economical, efficient, and resistant to pollution during use, making it promising solution for industry and environmental protection.

Head of VGUIT’s Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology as well as project leader Dr. Olga Korneyeva explained that the microbiological evaluation of the air in the facilities where the collector was installed showed its effectiveness.

The device removes suspended particles, including dust, thanks to a thin layer of moving liquid and the labyrinth - type collector. At the same time, it is simple to use and does not require high energy consumption.
