The Governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, inaugurated the Chetumal Maritime Portal, in Chetumal, vibrant capital city of Mexico’s Quintana Roo state, located on the east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, a tranquil bayside hub situated right on the Belize border, uniquely blending Caribbean wooden architecture, Mayan history, and cross - cultural Belizean influences, serving as a popular base for regional exploration.
This ostentatious luminous arch transforms the “Muelle Fiscal” (the Fscal Dock) image of the city’s primary international maritime gateway, a modern maritime portal highlighted by the presence of scenic promenades, a viewpoint, and LED lighting, acting as a major hub for cross - border tourism, trade and cultural exchange between Mexico and Belize, and considered one of the most representative spaces of the Chetumal community.
The project integrates a monumental arch more than 7 metres high, a 157 - square - metre viewpoint over the sea and a a corridor intervened with architectural lighting along 260 metres 260 metres of pier, which incorporates a system of programmable lights that interact with the music, generating a dynamic and attractive experience who walk through it.
The governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama said that the “Muelle Fiscal”, recognized as a meeting point for runners, families and people who come daily to walk, carry out sports activations or enjoy the sunset, today is consolidated as a renovated, modern space with greater identity. This work recovers the coastal identity of the capital of Quintana Roo state, for the benefits of more than 223.000 inhabitants of the Othón P. Blanco municipality and with the maritime portal the authorities contribute to the projection of Chetumal as a more active, orderly and attractive city.
The official added that in this way one more tourist attraction of interest to visitors is added and local economic is boosted, with an investment of almost 4 million pesos (approximately $23.5 million). Likewise, this intervention contributes to making the Chetumal - San Pedro, Belize route more attractive, encouraging a greater flow of visitors and strengthening tourism and economic activity in the region.

Blanco municipality to implement a solid tourism campaign, Chetumal businessmen promote the campaign “Descubre el Sur” (Discover the South), through a digital platform that allows users to learn about the natural beauties of the capital of Quintana Roo state and its surroundings as well as services available.
