Togo | The Country Grants Visa - Free Entry to all African Passport Holders

Togo has become the sixth African country to grant visa - free entry to all holders of African passports, with the policy took effect from 18th May 2026, allowing stays of up to 30 days.

The directive, signed by Security Minister Calixte Batossie Madjoulba places Togo alongside Benin, Ghana, Rwanda, Seychelles and The Gambia, which have already adopted full or near - full visa - free access for African travellers.

This policy introduced to boost tourism and regional integration, requires travellers to complete an online pre - arrival declaration at least 24 hours before departure, and standard immigration, health and security screening will remain in place at all entry points. For non - African passport holders, visas on arrival or prior e – visas are typically required.

The exemption does override immigration or public health requirements. Travellers must still present a valid national passport and comply with standard administrative checks at the border.

Togo’s visa 0 free entry decision aligns with continental initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) as momentum builds across the region toward greater visa liberalisation, with more than 60% of African destinations now offering visa - free or visa - on - arrival access to African travelers.

The country’s initiative supports the African Union’s vision for borderless mobility, a reform launched to strengthen pan - African cooperation,  stimulate intra - African trade, tourism, and business with the aim to reinforce the country’s role as a central commercial, investment and cultural hub in West Africa.
