Hilton | To Rebrand an Iconic, Storied Hotel as an LXR Hotels & Resort Property in Tokyo, Japan

Hilton Worldwide Holdings, Inc., American hospitality company based in Tysons,Virginia, will rebrand the iconic, storied Hotel Gajoen in Meguro, Tokyo, as an LXR Hotels & Resorts property, with an official launch scheduled by 2027.

 The property, owned by Brookfield Properties, asset management that owns and manges a range of premium lodging and hospitality destinations worldwide with its global headquarters located in New York, U.S. and managed by Hilton will be the first LXR Hotels & Resorts hotel in Tokyo and the second in Japan, following ROKU KYOTO LXR Hotels & Resorts. The company has additional luxury properties planned for Hiroshima and Niseko, Hokkaido.

Hotel Gajoen Tokyo is a historic 5 - star “museum hotel” conveniently situated at 1 Chome- 8 - 1 - Shimomeguro,  just a 3 - minute walk from Meguro Station (on the Yamanote Line) allowing easy transit to Shibuya Crossing, close to the picturesque Meguro River lined with approximately 800 cherry trees, a top destination during cherry blossom seas and offering an easy access to Tokyo cultural and commercial districts.

Renowned as Japan’s first wedding complex, the hotel is known as the “Palace of the Dragon God”, it is famous for housing over 2.500 pieces of Japanese art, tranquil indoor waterfalls, and seven connecting rooms decorated by master painters from the Showa era.

The property is filled with intricate lacquerwork, gold - leaf accents, and mother - of - pearl inlays and houses Hyakudan Kaidan, or the Hundred - Step Staircase, the only remaining wooden structure within the hotel and a designated Tangible Cultural Property by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

The hotel boasts beautiful indoor waterways, with the lobby and corridors feature stunning atriums, ponds with nishikigoi and cascading indoor waterfalls.

Hotel Gajoen Tokyo feature 60 guest room that are all over 60 square metres and styled like traditional tea rooms,  boasting premium amenities like private steam sauna, whirlpooljetted bathtubs and tatami area. 

The property has multiple high - end restaurants spanning traditional Japanese, Chinese, and Italian cuisines, designed to look like art galleries and Café Lounge Pandora, an iconic space serving seasonal teas and light bites overlooking the waterfall garden.

Additional facilities at the hotel include a well-equipped gym that offers yoga classes,  a spa, an in - house hair salon, a  gift shop, and approximately 5.700 square metres of meeting and event space.

This storied, iconic hotel will join LXR Hotels & Resorts brand, a Hilton’s collection of unique, independent luxury hotels and resorts in intriguing global locations, focusing on immersive, locally - inspired experiences and bespoke service, rather than a standardized brand feel.

Each property maintains its own distinct history and identity, offering guests curated cultural adventures, fine dining, and a hub for personal exploration under the Hilton umbrella.

The hotel will resume operations for its rooms and restaurants in mid - 2026, following a phased program, of enhancements to its facilities and guest rooms. The rebranding will incorporate the property’s nearly 100 years of heritage and Japanese artistry.
