Honduras | The Ministry of Tourism and the CNI Signed a Cooperative Agreement to Strengthen the Promotion of the Country

The Ministry of Tourism of Honduras and the National Investment Council (CNI) announced an alliance by signing a cooperative agreement aimed at promoting strategic tourism projects, streamlining bureaucratic procedures, and facilitating new domestic and foreign investments in the Honduran tourism sector. 

This partnership is designed to transform the country into a highly attractive destination for travellers and investors by developing the sector as a key driver for economic development and job creation.   

The Minister of Tourism, Andrés Ehrler, explained that both entities have historically worked together, but now they seek to avoid duplication of functions and offer more efficient attention to investors.  

Among the outstanding initiatives is the strengthening of the Digital Investment Portal, a platform that is already part of the National Tourism Registry, and allows entrepreneurs in carry out procedures completely online, without the need to travel to the Honduran capital or hire intermediaries. 

The authorities are also working on the creation of a Single Window for investment within the Ministry of Tourism, to accelerate the formalization processes contemplated in the Tourism Promotion Law and facilitate access to tax incentives. 

The Minister of Tourism stressed that one of the main objectives is to reduce response times for investors. The official added that it is not possible that to be able to issue a report it takes 10 working days because the law indicates when the opinion can be issued in three. 

According to the minister the initiative also seeks to facilitate investment opportunities for Honduran entrepreneurs, who currently represent most of the tourism activities that take place in the country. 

Key Highlights of the Agreement

•    Bureaucratic Simplification: Reducing barriers and promoting efficient one – stop window to support national and foreign investors. 
•    Sector Support: Promoting the Sectorial guide for investment in Tourism which provides technical data, intelligence, and project evaluation tools. 
•    Investment Promotion: Utilizing the “Ruta del Inversionista” and the “Portal fr Inversiones” (PDI) to guide entrepreneurs through the legal and tax benefits of the Tourism Law.
