Thailand | Launched THIM, a Mobile App to Streamline Entry Procedures to the Country

Thailand launched the Thailand Immigration Management System (THIM), a mobile app designed to digitize entry procedures to the country and replace paper - based forms. Currently in its testing phase, the application is designed to drastically streamline immigration checkpoints and process visitor information in under three minutes.

As reported by Vietnam News Agency (VNA) this mobile app launched and led by Thailand’s Immigration Bureau allows foreign travellers to register their information before entering Thailand from a mobile phone and get through passport control faster.

With THIM there is no need to manually enter passport data, travellers simply photograph the corresponding page and  the system utilising an electronic know - your customer (e – KYC) feature that allows users to scan their passports will automatically recognize the text in the image  extracting and recording certain personal information, minimising manual data entry and speeding up border crossing.

The service time per passenger is expected to be reduced to less than 40 seconds. On subsequent trips, logging will take less than a minute, as the system saves the user’s primary data, protected by end – to  - end encryption.

The app is available in four languages: Chinese, English, Japanese, and Russian. By October 2026, Thai authorities plan to expand that number to 15.

Travellers can complete their Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) in advance, submitting accommodation, details, flight data, and the purpose of their visit directly from their mobile devices.

In the future, users will be able to inform the authorities online about their address in Thailand, process certain documents in electronic format, and receive special offers and discounts. All the features of the application are free.

In addition the app streamlines group and family processing. The system allow a single user to submit arrival and departure information for up to ten travellers, heavily simplifying family and group travel and by verifying information before passengers land, authorities significantly reduce wait times and alleviate queues at Thai immigration checkpoint.

While initially focused on arrival cards, the platform is slated to integrate an immigration “Super App” with future features such as visa extensions, 90 - day reporting, and making appointments with the immigration bureau.

The THIM app is available for pilot testing on both the Apple App Store and Google Plauy Store, with a full official rollout planned for late 2026.

The launch of THIM is part of Thailand’s public services digitization program, aimed at simplifying immigration procedures, reducing paper documentation, and improving convenience for foreign tourists and long - term residents.
