Copenhagen, Denmark | Named the World’s Most Liveable City

Copenhagen, the capital and largest city of Denmark, located on the eastern coast of the island of Zealand and partly on the island of Amager, facing the Øresund strait that separates Denmark from Sweden, famed for its “hygge lifestyle”, world - class New Nordic cuisine, design and unmatched bike culture has been named the world’s most liveable city in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2026 Global Liveability Index.

The recognition highlights the Danish capital’s longstanding focus on sustainable urban planning, cycling infrastructure, accessible public transport and green public spaces.

The annual Global Liveability Index evaluates 173 cities using indicators including stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

Published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), an organization provides global political, economic and business research, primarily via its flagship platform EIU Viewpoint. It offers 5 - year and 30 - year economic forecasts, industry analysis, operational/ financial risk assessments, and proprietary reports like the annual Global Liveability Index.

The index with the ranking is widely used by businesses and organisations to compare living conditions around the world. In the 2026 ranking Vienna, Austria and Melbourne, Australia followed Copenhagen in this year’s assessment.

In addition to the recognition of World’s Most Liveable City,  Copenhagen also achieved outstanding scores for stability, education, culture and environment.
