Peru | Leading South American Destination at the World Travel Awards 2024

 

Peru, beautiful country of South America boasting an immense historical and artistic heritage at the foot of the imposing Andes mountain range where the iconic, ancient Inca city of Machu Picchu stands out and other attractions of great appeal such as the Sacred Valley, the city of Cusco, the Inca trail and hosting in its territory a section of the Amazon rainforest, a stupendous Pacific coastline has consecrated itself as Leading Destination in the regional edition of the prestigious WTA, World Travel Awards 2024.

For the seventh consecutive year since 2018, the Andean country has been chosen as the main cultural destination of the Latin American continent, a reconfirmation that this award highlights Peru's constant and continuous commitment to preserving and sharing its heritage and cultural diversity with the world.

Another World Travel Award was delivered to Peru to the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu in the Cusco region, awarded as South America's Leading Tourist Attraction for the seventh consecutive year and a further one to the Andean center for being the first tourist destination to achieve the carbon neutral certification at international level.

 In addition to those prestigious achievements Peru has also been awarded as Leading Culinary Destination in South America, consolidating its position as gastronomic epicenter of the continent, a prestigious award that adds to the recognition of the OEA of Peruvian gastronomy which achieved the award “Cultural Heritage of America” in 2011.

In December 2023, on the occasion of the global edition of the World Travel Awards, the Andean country had received three awards as the best culinary destination in the world, the best cultural destination in the world and the award to the capital Lima chosen as the best among the World Heritage cities destinations.

This series of accolades and prizes are undoubtedly an incentive to showcase the country's great attractions and certainly an encouragement to international visitors to enjoy the charm and beauty of the Andean country in all its wonderful aspects.

The Executive President of PROMPERÚ said that this recognition represents the result of the joint work between the public and private sectors, both firmly committed to the growth of tourism and to be able to contribute to the economic development of the Peruvian regions.
