Jamaica | Tourism Revenue Approximately US$3.0 Billion Since January

Jamaica,  island state of the Greater Antilles, located in the Caribbean Sea, characterized by its pristine beaches, tropical climate, dramatic landscapes with a rich biodiversity celebrated the Tourism Awareness Week 2024 which started with a positive note highlighting the growth of the Jamaican tourism industry and its contribution to the overall economy of the country.

Connected to all that Jamaica's Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett during a thanksgiving service at the Family Church located on the rock of Montego Bay, the capital of Saint James Parish, major cruise ship port with several idyllic beaches, renowned beach resorts and prestigious golf courses outside its commercial core said that in 2023 the country recorded 4.29 million visitors generating revenue of US$ 4.38 Billion.

The Minister then pointed out that according to preliminary statistical data, from the beginning of 2024 to date, Jamaica has received about 3 million visitors from airports and cruise ships to the Caribbean island, generating Tourism Revenue Approximately US$3.0 billion.

These data are undoubtedly positive given the events related to Hurricane Beryl, the travel warnings issued by the United States of America, the restrictions on air travel, data that marginally are higher than the excellent performance of 2023 remaining on a very good path in terms of tourist turnout to reach the goal of guaranteeing 5.0 million visitors and US$5.0 billion by 2025.

In the Minister's message read by Director of Tourism Donovan White, it was also noted that at the local level, the tourism industry is recognized as a fundamental pillar of the country's economy, providing optimal livelihoods to thousands of Jamaicans.

The Tourism Awareness Week 2024 which was held from 22 to 28 September under the motto "Tourism and peace, from many one love" in line and closely linked with the global theme of the UN, United Nations Tourism Organization had as its highlight the day of 27 September dedicated to "Tourism and Peace".

Linked to that the Minister underlined that tourism acts purely as a catalyst for peace by creating economic opportunities and stability for people and communities, creating better social cohesion and a greater commitment to maintaining peaceful conditions, which are key points for attracting and supporting visitors.
