Aguascalientes, city in central - western Mexico, capital of the homonymous state and county situated on the banks of the Aguascalientes river at 1.888 metres of altitude, famous for its stunning Spanish colonial buildings in its historic centre and several museums, characterized by its high quality of life, its promotion of culture and its wide range of educational, artistic and recreational activities will host the 30th edition of El Festival Cultural de Calaveras which will be held from 26th October 26 to 03rd November 2024.
The main venue will be located in the Isla de San Marcos, landscaped riverside fairground known for thrill rides, cultural festivals and horse racing, in the historic center of the city but the Calaveras Cultural Festival will take place in the entire Aguascalientes community with diverse music and dance activities for everyone with the installations of altars in various culture houses.
In addition to that Alejandro Vázquez Zuñiga General Director of the Cultural Institute of Aguascalientes declared that there will be a broad cultural and artistic program in various venues as Carranza Forum where three musical groups will perform daily with artists from Chile, Mexico, Peru, Spain and United States of America among others.
Other areas where people can enjoy a variety of activities include the Museo José Guadalupe Posada, the Museo de la Muerte, the Patio de las Jacarandas and the Andador J. Pani among others.
This 30th edition of this famous festival in Mexico has seen an economic outlay of over 370 million pesos, about € 17.5 million and like every year it will be a very heartfelt event living days of liveliness, participation and enthusiasm.
During the presentation ceremony, the Secretary of Tourism of Aguascalientes, Gloria Romo Cuesta, announced that this year's edition, in conjunction with its 30th anniversary, is recognized as the second most important tourist and cultural event in the entity and that an influx of about 375.000 visitors is expected, with an economic incentive of more than 370 million pesos.
Governor Tere Jiménez said that it is very important to create quality events that give a boost to tourism by promoting the culture of the state, which is why every year this festival that generates pride is improved.
The Island of San Marcos will be one of the main venues of this great event, a place where families will be able to enjoy from 12.00 to 22.00 the Living Altars exhibition, the Bread Pavilion, the Children's Pavilion which will offer workshops for girls and boys as well as live music, theatre, dance among many other activities.
The Made in Aguascaliente pavilion will also be installed where people will be able to buy typical local products and also the state DIF will have a pavilion where special activities will take place for the elderly as well as for children.
There will also be the Second National Danzón Meeting, an event that will bring together people from all over Mexico who will demonstrate their skills in this Mexican dance of romance thrive characterized by twirling, dipping, embracing, usually performed by elegantly dressed couples who evoke nostalgia.
Next to that there will also be important sports activities such as an indoor archery tournament and the Aguascalientes marathon which will take place on 26th October.
In the programming of the Festival are present the celebration of night tours such as "Xibalbá" in the Pantheon de la Salud and "Los Encarnizados del Ferrocaril" in the square Plaza de las Tres Centurias and there will also be contests for making the traditional bread of the dead.
Further highlights are other important events to enjoy such as the traditional Skull Parade which will take place on 2nd November at 9.00 p.m. through the main street of the Historic Centre of the capital and two concerts at the Palenque de la Feria with the presentation of Julio Preciado and Jorge Medina on 1st November and Edén Muñoz on 2nd November.
For all bullfighting fans a benefit festival will be held at Plaza de Toros Monumental, the Monumental Bullring, for the Aguascalientes Bullfighting Academy on 1st november at 7.30 p.m. with the participation of Antonio Ferrera, Bruno Aloi, Jorge Hernández Gárate, Arturo Saldivar, Leo Valadez and Paola San Román who will fight bulls coming from various ranches.
A further appointment will take place on 2nd November at 5.00 p.m. consisting in the Bullfight of Skulls which will see the presentation of great characters such as Fermin Espinosa also known as "Armillita IV" , Diego Sánchez and Borja Jiménez who will fight the bulls from the Santa Fe del Campo ranch.
