Curaçao | Incoming Tourism on the Rise Driven by U.S. Visitors

 

Curaçao, constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, one of the Leeward Islands located in the Lesser Antilles Island in the southern Caribbean Sea 65.0 kilometres north of Venezuela, well known for its hidden beaches tucked into coves and its expansive coral reefs rich with marine life flanked making it a paradise for diving and snorkeling along a wild and pristine coastline and for its pastel – colored colonial architecture in the capital Wilemstad sta experiencing a growth of its important tourist incoming, mainly driven by US visitors.

CTB, Curaçao Tourism Board recorded an 8% year -over - year in overnight land visitors in September, which tourism board officials call a traditionally slower seasonal month in the largest and most populous of the three "ABC islands". (the other two are Aruba and Bonaire)

The 49.858 visitors who stayed overnight in Curaçao in September 2024 included 3.903 more travellers than in the same period last year.

Visitor growth in the Caribbean country is driven by travellers coming from the United States of America, which is the destination's second-largest market.

Linked to that Curaçao welcomed 11.908 visitors from the North American country in September 2024, a figure that reflects an increase of 13% compared to the 10.497 US travellers who visited the country in the same period last year.

The majority of travellers from the United States of America who visited Curacao in September 2024 were predominantly from New York, New Jersey and Florida and stayed an average of 5.8 nights according to data provided by CTB.

The Curaçao Tourism Board also found that U.S. tourists overwhelmingly prefer resorts and hotels,with 73% opting for hotel complexes during their stay in the country, with 27 percent preferring non-hotel accommodations.

The largest market remains the Netherlands with 17.185 Dutch visitors in September 2024, an increase of 12% compared to 15.334 arrivals in the same month last year.

Other relevant data recorded by the Tourism Board are 513.875 overnight arrivals and 592.686 cruise passengers, and as for visitors who reached Curaçao on day trips, the destination received 1.126.877 arrivals until September 2024, a relevant increase in this case of 22% compared to the same period in 2023.
