Dominican Republic | Focus on Reaching 14 Million Visitors Annually

The Dominican Republic, Caribbean nation located in the two - thirds of the Island of Hispaniola that shares with Haiti to the west in the Greater Antilles well known for its pristine, exotic beaches, dramatic, tropical landscapes, luxury resorts, golfing and for being the homeland of two of the most popular Caribbean genres and dances namely merengues and bachata with a great progression in the field of incoming tourism is focused on achieving the goal of receiving 14 million visitors annually.

The country, 11 years ago, in 2013 had set a great goal to reach 10 million annual visitors in a decade in 2023, that number is now a memory and part of the past.

For the current year, the local authorities expect the arrival of 12 million visitors and for the Vice President Raquel Peña, the goal for the future is to reach 14 million visitors annually by the financial year 2028,.

This target is part of the country's broader sustainable growth strategy for 2036 with a plan that includes creating 1.7 million new jobs, tripling average wages, enradicating extreme poverty, increasing expectancy by six years and a date in which the Dominican Republic also aims to double its GDP.

Although Punta Cana, famous holiday destination situated on the easternmost tip of the country, abuts the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea well known for its 32.0 kilometres stretch of stunning beaches and turquoise waters boasting a major hotel offer remains the tourist stronghold of the country, it seems that in recent times it is the less popular destinations that are driving the expansion of tourism in the Caribbean country.

Linked to that promising destinations as Miches, centre situated in the northeast coast of the country in the province of El Seibo between the southern shore of the stunning Samaná Bay and the northern slopes of the Cordillera Oriental, is one of the country's great hopes for the development of holiday resorts becoming a major tourist hub.

Also noteworthy are the projects that are being developed in Punta Bergantin, strategically located in Puerto Plata, a region known for its stunning landscapes, vibrant culture and growing tourism.

Added to all that is the capital of the country Santo Domingo, a city in constant expansion, with a portfolio of new hotels that has elevated itself to a hub of relevance in the Caribbean and internationally to host important events of various kinds for some time.
