Perú | Continuation to Consolidate Tourism as an Important Axis of the National Economy

Perú, country in western South America that's home to a section of Amazon rainforest and the iconic Machu Picchu, a 15th - century Inca citadel high in the Andes mountains also highlited by its stunning Pacific coastline, a superb biodiversity and with a rich historic and cultural heritage is focused on the continuation to consolidate tourism as an important axis of the national economy.

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Perú Úrsula León  in a meeting held in New York with representatives of Virtuoso, the leading global network of agencies specializing in luxury and experiential travel, said that he will continue to position the Andean country as a tourist destination for travellers with greater purchasing power.

Perú has been working in partnership with Virtuoso for fifteen years to promote the entity in the markets of Asia, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the United States of America through its Commission for the promotion of Perú for Exports and Tourism, PromPerú, the official tourism board responsible for the promotion of the country’s exciting and diverse tourism offer and also establishing long – term business relationships with tour operators and the media in all relevant source markets.

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru has chosen to continue to position and consolidate the country as one of the cornerstones of national economic growth and to be able to promote it by including them in the large platforms, declaring that tourism is the engine of economic growth that move the GDP, the needle on gross domestic product.

The Minister then emphasized that Perú boasts a multitude of relevant resources such as the sea, mountains, culture, history, museums, beuatiful government palaces ever seen, a beautiful main square, whale watching, flora and fauna among others.

The official statistical data corresponding to 2023 show that Perú received 2.524.658 visitors while in 2019 the figure was 4.371.787, but despite all that there is optimism about this recovery based on the new data for 2024.

This optimism is in fact reflected in the encouraging figures recorded between january and august 2024 with already 2.178.302 visitors, a data considerably higher and up than in the same period of 2023 when there were 1.564.957 visitors.
