Tula – Tamaulipas – Mexico | 2nd Edition Festival del Desierto – From 19th to 20th October 2024

 

Tula also known as Ciudad Tula, city in the state of Tamaulipas located in the northeast of Mexico bordering to the north with the Rio Bravo river that separates it from the Unites states, centre that was founded on 22th July 1617 by the Franciscan friar Juan Bautista de Mollinedo, which is why it is considered the oldest city in the state of Tamapulipas and in 2011 named one of the Magical Towns in recognition of its cultural and historic value will host the second edition of Festival del Desierto, the Desert Festival from 19th to 20th October 2024.

Dances, music, gastronomy, handicraft exhibitions, stands, entrepreneurs will be the protagonists in this event which will be celebrated in the Plaza de Armas of this Mexican centre well known for the architecture from the Porfiriato period, its captivating atmosphere, the traditional "callejoneada" and the region's healthy climate.

Enlivened by traditional music, with the celebration of a grand ball you can enjoy the hospitality and warmth of the people of Tula, the local market, among other things the region's crafts stand out with the iconic "cuera" typical clothing of Tamaulipas that is originally of Tula and leather jackets among others.

Don't miss the excellent gastronomic offer where the tastefully and emblematic enchiladas Tultecas garnshed with a topping made with chorizos, cheese, potatoes, carrots, onions, tomatoes and pickled piquin chiles, carne asada, cabrito al pastor and gorditas rellenas among others.

In the area the visitors can also enjoy some places of high interest such as the archeological zone of Tammapul where the Cuizillo is located, a pre - Hispanic pyramid considered unique in its kind and the largest in in Tamaulipas state, El Contadero, the second most important pilgrimage centre in the state and La Laguna, a relaxing and recreational area for the inhabitants of the region.

The Reserva de la Biosfera El Cielo formed some 65 million years ago is another highlight, this is the first place in Mexico that the Government declared a biosphere reserve with a surface of 558 square miles with the opportunity to admire four types of vegetation, such as tropical rainforest, mountainous cloud forest, oak forest and pine forest with the presence of fossils of sea life and 650 butterfly species of northeastern Mexico are found in this reserve with crystal – clear Springs.

The Secretary of Tourism of Tamaulipas Benjamin Hernández Rodriguez said that this event is a great option to visit one of the magical cities of the state, have fun with the family and it is about promoting the beauties present in Tamaulipas as much as possible by making sure that more local, national and international tourists visit the state which through various strategies is a goal that is being achieved.
