The Algarve – Portugal | Recognised as the World's Best Beach Destination at the World Travel Awards

 

The Algarve, Portugal's southernmost region, a land characterized by stunning Atlantic beaches, low cliffs overlooking sandy coves, picturesque, whitewashed villages along its coastline and interior, a mild climate all year round was once again recognised as the World's Best Beach Destination at the World Travel Awards 2024, in an event which took place on 24th november in Madeira, famed archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean off the northwest coast of Africa and autonomous region of Portugal.

The Portuguese region achieved this prestigious distinction for the third time after the successes achieved in 2020 and 2021 and it was chosen as winner in a list of 23 named candidates that included several world's iconic destinations such as Cancun - Mexico, The Maldives, The Philippines and Zanzibar among others.

The World Travel Awards are considered the Oscar of Tourism, an initiative chooses, every year, representing the best in tourism and travel industry in various categories through the vote of main leaders of tourist sector from around the world.

The attribution of this relevant award recognizes the uniqueness and beauty of the Algarve coast which its approximately 200 kilometres and numerous shining beaches on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean enchanting several visitors from all over the world, a paradisiacal territory combining impressive cliffs, golden beaches, hidden inlets, marvelous bays diverse, extensive areas highlighted by promontories and suggestive villages nestled on rocky spurs.

Beyond the natural landscape the Algarve region also stands out for its ability to provide memorable experiences offering numerous activities such as surfing, diving, sailing, sunbathing, leisurely walks, trekking, golf, a delicious gastronomy and fine wines, a notable, historic and cultural heritage among others.

In 2024, the value of Algarve's beaches was further reinforced by several quality frameworks such as the 86 beaches distinguished with Blue Flag by the Blue Flag Association of Europe, the 69 beaches awarded by Gold Quality by Quercus – National Association for Nature Conservation and the 13 classified as Zero Pollution beaches recognized by CERO, Sustainable Terrestrial System Association.

Among these there are still accessible beaches, which guarantee that the Algarve region is inclusive for all visitors.

The President of Algarve André Gomes, on the achievement of this important award comnmented that receiving this prestigious title again represents an immense pride for the region and proof that the Algarve conrinues to consolidate its position at a global level and is also,at the same time a growing responsibility, which reinforces the region determination to continue offering unique experiences, aligned with the highest international requirements and capable of attracting visitors and exceeding their expectations.
