CDMX – Mexico | No Increase in the Lodging Tax For 2025

 

CDMX, Mexico City, Ciudad de México, the capital and largest centre of Mexico and the most populous city in North America, the largest urban agglomeration in the Western Hemisphere and the second largest in the world after Tokyo, one of the most important cultural and financial centres in the globe will not increase the lodging tax, which will remain at 3.5% in 2025 for hotels and 5% in lodging services that are contracted through digital platforms.

This has been reported by the Director of Mexico City Hotel Association Alberto Albarrán Leyva, who recently explained that Mexico City collect with this tax, only in hotels, between 600 and 650 million of Mexican pesos a year.

For the Director of Mexico City Hotel Association, all this resource is administered by the Mixed Fund for Tourism Promotion of Mexico city, which is in charge of the promotion of CDMX  brand and precisely for next year it will be implememented for promotion strategies and the city’s brand.

The lodging tax is paid by the client when he arrives at a a hotels in Mexico City, who pays VAT, plus 3.5% for this lodging tax.

As additional detail the Director said that in the last four or five years, this tax had not been used for the purpose it was created, which is tourism promotion.
