Indonesia, country situated in Southeast Asia, composed of 17.508 islands, the largest archipelago in the globe and the world's fourth – most – populous country, a very emergent destination as predicted has had a very busy 2024 receiving more than 12 million visitors and the idyllic, exotic destination of Bali remains the country's most - in - demand destination both by domestic and international tourists.
The BPS, Indonesia's Central Statistics Agency has just announced updated figures for the end of last year that confirm 2024 was the busiest tourist year in more than five years, despite the final data for the previous year will not available for the time, being, as figures are always shared a month late.
The Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics of the Central Statistics Agency, Pudji Ismartini explained that in total from January to November 2024, the total number of visits by international tourists reached 12.66 million.
This number represents an increase of 20.7% compared to the same period in 2023 and this is the greatest achievement of the last five years confirming the notable progress in incoming tourism generated by a major connectivity, improvements in the hospitality industry, new tourist proposals and strategic plans of marketing to highlight the beauty of the country and the vast offer in different segments.
As additional note in November 2024, the BPS recorded 1.09 million visits by international tourists, reflecting a decrease of 8.58% compared to October 2024, which coincides with the low season of tourism, however it is clear that Indonesia will have surpassed the 13 million tourists visits mark by the time the final figures will be released in early February 2025.
