A recent study led by Booking.com, one of the largest online travel agencies headquartred in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and a subsidiary of Booking Holdings, points out that  75% of international travellers say they want to travel more sustainably, while 71% say they wish to leave the places they visit in better condition than when they arrived.

A partnership between VisitScotland, national tourism organisation and executive non - departmental public body of the Scottish Government which aims to highlight the attractions of the destination through advertising and promotional campaigns and the American tourism - non - profit organisation Tourism Cares, a catalyst of positive social, environmental, and economic impact for the people and places of travel has been forging links between Scottish businesses offering meaningful travel experiences and tour operators and travel agents creating packages for international visitors.

"The Meaningful Travel Map" connects the tourism sector with Scottish businesses, giving them the opportunity to reach new audiences, develop their businesses and encourage responsible travel and Scotland was the first European destination to appear on the map and now there are more than 30 companies included.

VisitScotland has been working with businesses to make them ready for the tourism sector and these responsible tourism experiences give consumers confidence that their visit to Scotland can be a force for good.

International visitors represent an essential resource and an important market for Scotland and in the first six months of 2024, the destination received almost 2 million visits from international tourists with a record spend of almost £1.5 billion.
