La Coruña, Spain | Designed Three Tourist Routes to Enhance Tourism and Promote its Municipal Markets

La Coruña, also known as Coruña, a relevant port city located on a promontory, in Galicia, autonomous community of northwest Spain, capital of the province of the same name and the head of its region, a centre whose history is closely interwinded with its ancient fishing and trading harbour through its City Council has designed three tourist routes to enhance tourism and promote its municipal markets.

The city with its seafaring spirit, highlighted by iconic landmarks such as the Roman Lighthouse and the  Tower of Hercules, which boasts sweeping coastal views and the famed Riazor Beach also has a rich cultural and historical heritage visible in its medieval town where stands the beautiful arcaded square, Plaza de Maria Pita in its captivating centre,the Church of San Jorge, the Church of Santiago and very interesitng museums.

These new exclusive experiences aim to promote the activity of its municipal markets and highlight the superb fish productus caught by local fleet, an activity of relevant importance for many centuries in the city, focuses from deep - sea charters targeting tuna and swordfish to shore fishing for seabream and mackerel, as well as with a long tradition in fly fishing for trout and salmon trout in the nearest Rio Eume, a river that flows in one of the best - preserved riverside Atlantic forests in Europe.

These three guided tours will offer relevant information about the notable city's seafaring tradition in an educational and interactive way, being a complete experience knowing in details an activity which always played an important role in the economy of La Coruña and the region.

The starting point for the three maritime rutes will be at the Lonja of La La Coruña located in the harbour of the city, the second largest port for fresh fish and seafood landing in Spain and one of the most important in Europe.

The participants, duly accredited, will be able to learn about how fishing operations work and experiencing the auction live, undoubtedly a unique opportunity to get to know the fishing industry from the inside.

The tours will then take different paths to reach the municipal markets, enjoying a walk through iconic places of the Galician city and the estinations will be a market in the city on each route, where its differential aspects will be highlighted and the salespeople themselves will participate by informing the groups about their daily work and the product for sale.

During these visits will be explained several aspects about fishing gear, sustainability or how the freshness and quality of the products is guaranteed umtil they reach as final stage, the markets.

Finally a tasting will be offered specially prepared for the occasion with local fishing product including both traditional and innovative bites and this degustation represents the culmination of these seafaring routes where fish and seafood are accompanied from the sea to the table, tourist routes all to enjoy living  authentic experiences.

The Councilor for Employment, Commerce Markets of La Coruña, Diana Cabanas said that from the Government of Inés Rey, the aim is to promote the consumption of local products in the local markets through different initiatives, such as these tourist routes represent the creation of a distinctive seal such as fish from the Fish Market of A Coruña.
