Miami Beach, Florida, U.S. | Approval for a $12 Million South Beach Lincoln Road Revitalization Investment

Miami Beach, a south Florida city located in Miami - Dade County, connected by bridges to mainland Miami, a glamorous destination highlighted by white sand beaches, turquoise waters from North Shore Open Space Park, past palm - lined Lummus Park to South Pointe Park,  renowned for its emblematic South Beach, a vibrant cultural scene, an international cachet with celebrities and models and its iconic early 20 - century architecture in the Art Deco Historic district highlighted by pastel - coloured buildings especially along Ocean Drive, through the Miami Beach City commission had an unanimous approval for a $12 million South Beach Lincoln Road revitalization investment.

The plan consists in a redevelopment of Lincoln Road and the adjacent Beachwalk entrance, spearheaded by Sobe Sky Development LLC, a prominent real estate developer and owner of the Ritz - Carlton, South Beach and the Sagamore Hotel, a move which aims to enhance the urban core of Miami Beach increasing furthermore its image and appeal.

The funding for the project is sourced from multiple entities, including $4.85 million from the State of Florida, $4.0 million from Sobe Sky Development LLC and $4.0 million from the City of Miami Beach. 

Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road is not a common urban artery, is an icon crossing one of the most unique shopping districts in the globe, full of world - class culture, stunning architecture, retail stores, trendy bars, upscale restaurants and well known for its eternal vibrant atmosphere. 

The most famous section is undoubtedly Lincoln Road Mall, a pedestrian passage running parallel  between 16th and 17th Streets. The 8  - block - long pedestrian mall was designed by the talented Ukranian art deco architect but raised in New York, Morris Lapidus, primarily known for his Neo - Baroque “Miami Modern” hotels developed in the 1950s and 60s, who utilized modernist visual and spatial elements to create eye catching, filling the broad street with public art and native plants that enhance the experience.

The redevelopment aims to revitalize and transforming the several blocks of Lincoln Road with a plan includes into a pedestrian - friendly area with enhanced landscaping and amenities with the design led by Andres Arcila of Naturalficial, a Miami based design firm specializing in the production of contemporary constructive environments that connect people to nature with the aim to integrate public beach access with Lincoln Road’s shopping area.

The project also includes plans to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety, involving negotiations with Dade Country to alter bus and traffic routes, facilitating the pedestrianization of the 100 - 300 blocks and extending the Lincoln Road Mall. 

The redesign will feature an artwalk, traffic enyhancements, and a gateway monument inspired by architect Morris Lapidus.

Concerning the Beachwalk entrance on Collins Avenue, a major thoroughfare running parallel to the Atlantic Ocean, which experiences high pedestrian traffic, will see improvements to minimize vehicle - pedestrian interactions and enhance traffic circulation. The redesign includes reimagined laners and medians to streamline traffic and improve safety for both pedestrians and motorists.
