Minor Hotels, an international operator, investor, and owner in the hospitality industry, a company founded in 1978 and based in Bangkok, Thailand, has unveiled plans to open an Avani hotel near Mooloolaba Beach on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, an Australian coastal stretch encompassing beach resorts, surf spots, beautiful sand beaches and pristine waterways sit alongside lush rainforests and Heritage - listed national parks.
The future opening of the Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel marks the first internationally branded new - built hotel on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast in nearly 40 years and it will be developed, owned and operated by KPAT Hotels, a development company which aims to create spaces that blend genuine hospitality with local spirit based in Toowoomba, under a franchise agreement with Minor Hotels.
The opening of the establishment is part of Minor Hotels’ global expansion strategy, aiming to increase its portfolio to over 850 properties by the end of 2027.
Scheduled to open in April 2026, the 12 - story, 180 - room hotel will be situated on a corner site at Brisbane Road and First Avenue, approximately 100 metres from Mooloolaba Beach, a popular family - friendly beach, known for its golden sand and calm waters.
The beach is patrolled, norh - facing beach ideal for swimming, paddling, and beginner surfing, with gentle waves protected by Point Cartwright and the surrounding area offers numerous shops, restaurants, playgrounds, and parks.
The location is undergoing a foreshore revitalization project, which includes expanded parkland and enhance access, the Sunshine Coast Airport is a 15 - minute drive from the property and attractions like Australia Zoo are within 30 minutes by car, and the Sunshine Coast Airport is a 15 - minute drive from the hotel.
The hotel will feature 180 comfortable rooms and one - bedroom suites ranging from 27 to 45 square metres, with options for interconnecting rooms.
Amenities will include three dining venues, including a restaurant focusing on local produce, a lobby bar, a rooftop pool and bar on the 12th floor with views of Mooloolaba Beach, the Glass House Mountains, a 24 - hour in - room dining and high - speed Wi-Fi
Wellness facilities will include AvaniSpa, featuring private treatment suites and a sauna, and AvaniFit, which will provide high – performance training facilities and in - room wellbeing programs.
The property will provide a dedicated events floor on the third level, offering four flexible venues capable of hosting up to 250 guests, spaces that will incorporate natural textures and contemporary finishes, along with audiovisual technology.
The establishment will enter into Avani Resorts & Hotels portfolio, an upscale, stylish brand launched by Minor Hotels in 2011, focuses on offering a balance of comfort and style for guests, particularly for whose who appreciate good design and value and representing a very performing brand in a market in continuous growth.
