In Asia Japan is followed by Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, India and the Philippines. European destinations such as Ireland, the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Austria, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Slovenia, Malta, Belgium, Romania, Bosnia and Hercegovina, and the Netherlands maintain strong positions in the ranking.
The Middle East and Africa are represented by Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Mauritius, Tanzania, and Tunisia, while Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru represent South America.
The ranking also emphasized destinations with strong safety and stability credentials, including Ireland, New Zealand, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Finland, Denmark, and Malta. These factors are increasingly important to travellers, according to TTW’s analysis.
Emerging trends identified in the report include a growing emphasis on cultural immersion and heritage tourism, as well as the influence of safety perceptions on travel decisions.
The Asia - Pacific region is experiencing accelerated growth due to its improved connectivity and infrastructure, while the Middle East and Africa are gaining attention through diversification and investment in tourism.
Global outbound travel is projected to grow steadily in 2026, driven by significant demand from North America, Europe, and the Asia - Pacific. This trend underscores the relevance of the destination featuresd in TTW’s ranking.
The TTW ranking reflects Japan’s tourism success is booming, driven by a weak yen making it affordable, strong post - pandemic recovery, diverse attractions (culture, food, nature), increased air connectivity, and strategic promotion, leading to record visitors numbers and expenditures, though the country now faces challenges like overtourism in popular spots.
The tourism industry is a major economic contributor, becoming Japan’s second - largest export sector after autos, with rural areas also seeing significant growth.
