Hanoi, Vietnam | Started the Year with Exceptional Tourist Flows

Hanoi’s tourism started the year with exceptional tourist flows, seeing a huge surge (around 250%) visitors during the four - day new Year holiday, reaching 560.000 tourists and generating about $80 million in revenue, driven by longer breaks, diverse cultural - tech offerings like 3D mapping shows, and growing international appeal. 

This success follows a strong 2025 for Hanoi and Vietnam, boosted by easier visa policies, with the Vietnamese centre recognized globally as a top cultural and and city destination, setting a positive for trajectory for the year ahead.

 Of the total number of visitors estimated to be served between the 1st and 4th of the current month, around 110.000 are international tourists, an increase of about 287% compared to the same period of 2025 as reported by Hanoi Tourism Department. 

On the other hand, the Hanou Moi newspaper said when releasing the information, in the 2026 New Year Holiday, the length of stay of tourists tended to increase, reaffirmeing the role of the capital as an attractive and safe destination. 

Key Highlights for Early 2026:

 •    Visitor Boom: 560.000 visitors (110.000 international, 450.000 domestic) during the Jan 1 -4 holiday, a ~ 250% increase from the previous year. 
•    Revenue Surge: Over VND2.1 trillion (approximately $80 million), a ~ 254% jump. 
•    New Experiences: Cultural festivals, digital art (3D mapping at Imperial Citadel), night tours, and countdown events attracted crowds. 
•   Relevant Attractions: Hoan Kiem Lake, Temple of Literature, and tech - enhanced heritage sites were popular.

Factors Contributing to Growth

•    Extended Holiday: A longer break provided more travel opportunities. 
•    Diverse Offerings: A blend of traditional culture, modern tech, and unique culinary experiences. 
•    Strong Rebound: Reflects effective post – pandemic recovery and diversified tourism products. 

Broader Context

•    Vietnam Success: The nation saw spectacular growth in 2025, aided by breakthrough visa policies. 
•    Global Recognition: Hanoi was named “Asia Leading City Destination” and ranked high in Tripadvisor.

By 2026 building on this strong start the Vietnamese capital expects to receive more than 35.8 million visitors, of which 8.6 million will be international travellers.
