IHG Hotels & Resorts | Unveiled Plans to Open a Triple - Branded Hotel Near USJ in Osaka, Japan

IHG Hotels & Resorts, British multinational hospitality company based in Windsor, Berkshire, England, UK, has unveiled plans to open a triple - branded hotel in Osaka, large port city and commercial hub on the Japanese island of Honshu, a vibrant centre known for its notable cultural heritage,  historic landmarks like Osaka Castle, modern architecture, hearty street food and lively districts such as Dotonbori.

This project, in partnership with Sakurajima Kaihatsu LLC, a consortium led by Kajima Corporation, one of Japan’s largest and oldest construction and real estate development companies, founded in 1840 and headquartered in Tokyo, will feature a triple - branded hotel comprising InterContinental, Kimpton, and Holiday Inn Resort properties and will be IHG Hotels & Resorts’ largest new - build hotel project developed in Japan.

The complex is set to open in 2029 and will be located in Konohana - ku, an Osaka’s Ward famous for Universal Studios Japan (USJ) and its vibrant Universal CityWalk, an area which offers a mix of industry and recreation with waterfront areas like Maishima Sports Island, featuring sports facilities, museums, and scenic views, plus historic sites and great transport links to the rest of Osaka and beyond, making it a dynamic destination for fun and relaxation.

In addition the IHG’s complex will provide guests with convenient access to the upcoming Integrated Yumeshima. The site is accessible via a 10 - minute boat ride or drive from the resort.

The development is expected to benefit from surrounding infrastructure improvements, such as the extension of the JR Sakurajima Line and the opening of new ferry terminals. Additionally, Kansai International Airport has recently increased its passenger capacity to 40 million annually following renovations.

This projects marks IHG Hotels & Resorts’ first triple - branded in Japan and expands its presence as an official hotel partner to Universal Studios Japan, owned by Comcast NBCU Universal a major entertainment destination in Osaka, attracting visitors from Japan and abroad. The park features attractions based on popular entertainment brands and continues to evolve with new additions like SUPER NINTENDO WORLD.

The hotels will be the only internationally branded properties in the area upon their opening. The project includes 817 rooms, making it a significant addition to the areas’s hospitality offerings and the hotels are :

The InterContinental Hotel: The property will feature 244 rooms, an all - day restaurant, a lobby bar and lounge, a Japanese – inspired thermal bathing experience, a gym, a rooftop swimming pool, and meeting spaces, including a ballroom and four meeting rooms.

The Kimpton Hotel: The establishment will provide 246 rooms, an all – day restaurant, a rooftop specialty restaurant, a deli/café, a gym, an indoor swimming pool, and four meeting rooms.

The Holiday Inn Resort: The hotel will offer 327 rooms, an all – day restaurant, a deli/café, a kids club, a games room, and indoor swimming facilities for both adults and children.

This major project is part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ ongoing expansion in Japan, where the company currently operates 57 hotels across 10 brands, with an additional 20 properties in the pipeline. The new hotels will complement the company’s existing portfolio in Osaka, which includes InterContinental Osaka Central, RIHGA Royal Hotel Osaka, and Vignette Collection.
