IHG Hotels & Resorts, British multinational hospitality company based in Windsor, Berkshire, England, UK, has signed an agreement with HDP Algarve SA, a prominent Portuguese hospitality and real estate company headquartered in Quarteira, to open an InterContinental hotel in Vilamoura, a premier, upscale resort town in Portugal’s central Algarve, renowned for its massive, luxurious marina, championship golf courses, casino, and pristine golden beaches like Praia da Falésia.
After a comprehensive renovation of the current Crowne Plaza property, the future Intercontinental Vilamour - Algarve is scheduled to open in April 2027 as part of IHG’s expansion in Southern Europe and in the Algarve, Portugal’s premier tourist hotspot, generating over $1.8 billion in record - breaking annual revenues. The region anchors roughly 30% of all national overnight stays, characterized by steadily increasing visitor spending, longer stays, and a high shift away from traditional summer seasonality.
The rebranded hotel that will cater to international leisure travellers and the premium meetings and events market is located at at Rua Stefano Saviotti nº 5, opposite Vilamoura Beach on the Atlantic Ocean, steps away from the lively Vilamoura Marina, 6 - minutes walk from Casino Vilamoura and 4 km from Pinhal Golf Course.
The property will feature 323 comfortable rooms, a selection of restaurants and bars, spa and wellness amenities, leisure facilities, and flexible meeting and event spaces.
The hotel will join the brand InterContinental Hotels & Resorts that has 34 properties across Europe, including the recently opened InterContinental Chantilly Chateau Mont Royal in France and additional pipeline properties such as InterContinental Belgrade in Serbia.
The brand, one of IHG’s fastest - growing emerging markets in Southern Europe, driven by year - round leisure and city – break demand, is known for its upscale accommodations and services in prime locations around the world, pioneering new destinations for decades, from historic buildings to immersive resorts offering comfort, luxury, excellence in service and attention to details.
The signing marks the fourth InterContinental property in Portugal, joining hotels like InterContinental Cascais - Estoril and other IHG Hotels & Resorts’ properties include Hotel Indigo Albufeira, Kimpton Atlântico Algarve, and Six Senses Douro Valley.
InterContinental Vilamoura – Algarve will join IHG Hotels’s Luxury and Lifestyle segment, which, as of March 31, 2026, includes more than 595 open hotels and 392 in development globally.
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts is celebrating its 80 th anniversary this year. The future opening of Intercontinental Vilamoura - Algarve is part of IHG’s strategy to expand its Luxury and Lifestyle presence in Portugal and Southern Europe.
