Uganda | Wildlife Authority Receives Heavy Duty Machinery to Improve Access Across Key National Parks

Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has received heavy duty machinery to improve access across key National Parks ans Conservation Areas taking delivery of 11 pieces of road constructions and maintenance, an investment forms part of the IFPA - CD World Bank Project and UWA’s broader infrastructure development strategy to strengthen the management and accessibility of protected areas network.

The initiative was highlighted with a formal handover ceremony at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre in Entebbe, a city in Central Uganda located on Lake Victoria peninsula, approximately 36 kilometres southwest of the Ugandan capital city, Kampala.

The acquisition of heavy machinery significantly upgrades national park infrastructure, key anticipated outcomes include improved tourist accessibility, creation of trails and tracks, resulting in smother driving conditions for tourists and rangers, enhanced habitat management, better invasive species control, and the construction of dams to provide critical water access for wildlife during dry season.

The equipment supplied by M/s Mantrac Uganda Limited and M/s Muhck International Limited includes three motor graders, four excavators, and four tractors with accessories. Four bulldozers are still to be delivered by the end of June 2026.

The machinery will be deployed across key National Parks and Conservation Areas including Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Kibale National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Kabwoya Wildlife Reserve.

Enhanced road networks within protected areas are expected to notably improve operational efficiency and visitor accessibility, a significant consideration for Uganda’s growing wildlife tourism sector, which includes high - value experiences and as gorilla trekking at Bwindi and chimpanzee trekking at Kibale.

The Uganda Wildlife Authority's (UWA) Executive Director Dr James Musinguzi said the equipment will be critical for opening and maintaining trails, removing invasive species and improving access for both conservation management and tourism activities.
