Uzbekistan | Green Energy Production Notably Increases in the Country

Green energy production notably increases in Uzbekistan, the Central Asian country’s renewable electricity generation grew by 24.3% year - over - year in early 2026, with solar and wind plants generating 6 billion kWh of electricity. Total installed renewable capacity grew more than fivefold to 10.027 MW in recent years. Solar energy led this surge expanding from just 2MW in 2016 to nearly 6.000 MW.

Of this figure, 3.8 billion kilowatt - hours came from solar plants and 2.2 billion kWh from wind plants. This recent green generation spike successfully saved 1.600 million cubic metres of natural gas since the beginning of the year, supporting energy security and emissions reductions.

The country aims to source 54% of its power from renewables by 2030, supported by nearly $$6 billion   in foreign investments into large – scale plants and grid modernization. This plan is part of Uzbekistan’s strategy to diversify its energy mix and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.

The country is also planning future infrastructure projects. To stabilize variable renewable generation, Uzbekistan is developing 10 large storage systems and investing $4 billion in transmission networks. Furthermore, construction began on an inaugural nuclear power facility in the Jizzah region to provide a low – carbon baseload.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Concerning international export goals, looking toward 2030, Uzbekistan, in tandem with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, plans to export green energy to Europe via a planned subsea Black Sea cable, highlighting the region’s growing role as a clean energy supplier.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          In addition to solar and wind expansion, Uzbekistan has strengthened its hydropower capacity: between 2017 and 2025, the number of hydropower plants in the country increased from 35 to 100, and its total capacity grew from 1.6 to 2.4 GW. This push for renewables positions the country as a key player in Central Asia’s energy transition.
